The challenge is to discuss questions of identity and gender. And also to discover and experience the path of a choreographic project, and finally, through improvisation and composition, try to create something to understand different ways of expressing through dance, through bodies, a thought or an emotion.

ESKLAN ARTS FACTORY (ITALY)
Honest and Sensitive Movement
Directed for intermediate and advance dancers

The workshop mainly involves two phases: The first phase is mainly of investigation. The research is about the discovery and consequently the use of each one articular section of which our body is composed and becomes an individual journey in which the dancer discovers his own mechanical specification linked to the peculiar characteristics of each body.  The second part is usually linked to the transfer of this “spontaneity of movement” in a choreographic path; language becomes a game between organic and formal always trying to translate this formality into a movement.

Improvisation

In this class we learn and practice ideas of improvisation. These ideas start simple and increase in complexity as the class continues. Dancers are given many different ideas to create a palette so that they can use them at the end of the class. The final exercise of this course is a structured improvisation with rules and using all of the ideas practiced throughout the class. This is usually where the most magical and touching moments happen.

JULIA MARIA KOCH (ALEMANIA)

Directed for intermediate and advance dancers

The so called body-scanning technique will focus the attention of the performer on his own body and will discover the multiple possibilities it bears. The body-work is influenced by different yoga-techniques and awareness exercises, The goal is to “scan“ through the body, “
take it apart” and then reconstruct it so it is available and strong. After that we go into exercises and lead improvisations upon tasks, discovering influences from urban techniques like popping and locking and the disassociative manner of understanding movement. Subsequently we will introduce parts of the repertory, which work with these influences and techniques, and will focus on the technical and interpretative challenges these sequences bring along.

The class will be focused on the basic walk-through of the prefered quality of movement at our company. Basically, what we like as dancers.  In the first part of the class we will try to go beyond the classical process of warm-up.  Through dance improvisation and games, we will get in the “I’m ready” mode. In the second part we will introduce floor work, feet work, and inverted positions in dance variations–extracts from the Studio Tança’s repertoire. And for the end, as a relaxation of body and mind, we will use Chi-Kung.
