About the Company

Founded in 2007, Gallim Dance is a contemporary dance company based in New York dedicated to creating and performing original works by Andrea Miller, nurturing the careers of youngartists, and stimulating the imagination of adiverse international audience. Miller’s work embodies a bold physicality, based on a deep humanity expressed through the madness and the joy of imagination.

Gallim quickly caught the attention of the dance community with its visceral movement, its resonant metaphors, and an award winning set of dancers. Miller’s work has been hailed by the New York Times as “voluptuously polyglot choreography” performed by dancers “of the highest quality” (Dance Europe). In 2012, the company was recognized for “innovation movement” in a TEDx conference. The company acts for more than 15,000 spectators annually in scenarios renowned including New York City Center, the Joyce Theater, Dance Festival Jacob’s Pillow, Spoleto Festival, White Bird, The TANZ Festival Bremen in Germany and Madrid en Danza in Spain.

Highlights in 2013 include a new commission for Action on Montclair State University for the creation of a new work entitled Fold Here. Fold Here pre-premiere at the Guggenheim Works & Process premiere in September and Montclair State University that same month. Additional support for the process of creation has been provided by Sadler’s Well and Dancer’s Workshop in Jackson Hole. Gallim Dance will also debut at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in May of 2013, with six performances Blush in the inaugural season of the BAM Fisher Theatre. International tours include performances at the National Theatre de Chaillot in Paris, France, the Festspiele Ludwigshafen in Ludwigshafen, Germany, the Tanztage Festival in Linz, Austria., and PRISMA Festival in Panama.

In January 2012, Gallim Dance established its new permanent home in a historical landmark building in Brooklyn, New York, where the annual programs of education and interpretation takes place. The educational program of Gallim serves both dancers and non-dancers through weekly classes, workshops specialized movement, artist residencies, and monthly series of performing arts. Additionally Gallim guide students Dance wave School based in Brooklyn, who performed in the repertoire of Gallim Jacob’s Pillow Festival in August.

In his 2012 season, Gallim Dance was awarded the New York City Center Choreography Fellowship Program residences Joyce Theater Foundation and the Professional Development Program of the Academy of Music in Brooklyn. Gallim also received significant support from the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, First Republic Bank, The Harkness Foundation for Dance, The Family Foundation Charles and Joan Gross, the Princess Grace Foundation USA, Foundation for Contemporary Art, Contemporary, Mid Atlantic Arts US Artists International Foundation, Jerome Foundation, and the Tupperware Corporation.
