About the Company
I am a dancer and choreographer, my expertise is in Hip-Hop and Contemporary dance, which I fuse with Ugandan and wider African traditional dance forms. Using my skills in community outreach and teaching, I am also a versatile performing artist, music producer, and social worker.
As an artist, my work focuses on self-acceptance and the realization of inner strength within daily life. My music production focus and interest are to give African traditional instruments and organic rhythms a poetic electronic instrumentalism and to tell stories to the world that has never been told before. The motivation behind my work is to preserve and develop African cultural heritage. Using artistic mediums, I have shown a positive perspective of African nations to young and old people around the world through international competitions, teachings, and music/DJ performances.
About the Piece
The performance portrays a reflection on and meeting of traditional/ancestral practices of invocation in Uganda, from the central region Buganda tribe. With religious and urban influence, I am exploring a resolution or harmonious living between the two influences from my childhood, by creating abstract echoes of creativity, self-awareness and sounds of belonging.
