COCODACO Dance Project
Were it not for shadows
About the Company
Cocodaco Dance Project is a community of contemporary dance companies. We strive to promote, present and produce contemporary dance at a world-class level while encouraging connection, collaboration and communication through dance. With your help, we are a financially sustainable dance project – a project which is a community that passes down the great traditions of dance, celebrates self and continues to bring new substance to the world of dance. Cocodaco operates as a triptych: professional, mezzo, and youth ensemble – each company informing and inspiring the next.
About the Piece
A dance, installation and music performance in which all the elements can be seen as particles in perpetual movement, permutable and parallel. The show is based on the endeavours of deconstruction, destructuring, decorporalisation through multiple layers of decoding the information. Video, text and music decompose and recompose the movement spaces, pinpointing the permanent relation of transfer between body and space. The choreographic approach is the result of a process of analysis and research with eight dancers, who build up both a fluid and fragmented organism. Based on philosophical and physical formulas, from the quantum theories to poststructuralism(Judith Butler, Julia Kristeva, Adriana Cavarero) and inspired by the the paraconsistent logic of dialectical philosophy (Graham Priest) and theories by Michel Foucault and Henri Lefebvre about the social production of space, the contradictory space, the other space (heterotopy), counter-space, the text, written by curator Olivia Nitis alongside the performers, puts the body in a fluid reality. Physical, mental, parallel, dual, contradictory body.
